What can UKOPA provide to Emergency Planners

The Pipelines Safety Regulations place a duty on Local Authorities to develop emergency plans for major accident hazard pipelines.

UKOPA can provide relevant information and advice from pipeline operators on emergency planning and response on behalf of pipeline operators to Emergency Planners in relation to the development of and testing of pipeline emergency plans.

In addition, UKOPA can provide advice on security of supply and environmental incidents.

Why Is UKOPA providing information to Emergency Planners

The development of efficient pipeline emergency plans requires spe#t information on pipeline operation, hazards which may effect the pipeline, the safety consequences of an accidental release of fluid and the requirements emergency response and any constraints which may affect this.

UKOPA provides information to ensure that current operator best practice is made available to assist Emergency Planners in developing emergency plans for pipelines, establishing the requirements for emergency response testing and updating plans and ensuring operators can provide relevant input to emergency response where necessary.

Who is the UKOPA Emergency Planning Work Group (EPWG)

The UKOPA Emergency Planning Working Group provides information and expert opinion in a consistent manner on pipeline emergency planning and response issues on behalf of UKOPA in relation to safety, security of supply and environmental issues – Emergency Planning Work Group (EPWG)
